FCL vs LCL — Which Ocean Freight Option is Right for You?

Full container load versus less than container load: cost, transit time and risk differences before you book.

FCL (Full Container Load) gives you a whole container for your cargo. LCL (Less than Container Load) lets you share a container with other shippers and pay per cubic metre.

As a rule of thumb, LCL is more economical below about 12–15 CBM, while FCL becomes cheaper beyond that and is also faster and safer because cargo is not consolidated or handled at a CFS.

Use a CBM calculator to size your shipment, then compare FCL and LCL quotes, factoring in transit time, handling and the risk profile of your cargo.
