Air freight is faster and more predictable; ocean freight is far cheaper per kilogram. The right choice depends on cargo value, urgency, shelf life and inventory costs.
High-value, perishable or urgent goods usually justify air. Bulky, heavy or low-value goods are better by sea. Many shippers mix both: air for replenishment peaks and ocean for the baseline.
Remember to compare on a landed-cost basis, including inventory carrying costs, handling, duties and the cost of stock-outs, not just the freight line.
